Stay in Control During Wet Weather

During a period of heavy rain in Erie, it may be harder for tires to make solid contact with the ground. However, there are ways that you can remain in control of your vehicle and avoid hydroplaning. It is important that you don't try to slam on the brakes or make a lane change when the roads are covered in water.

In most cases, your vehicle will simply slide or skid uncontrollably. If you need to reduce your speed, do so gradually until the vehicle comes to a stop. It is also important that you increase your vehicle's speed gradually on wet roads to maintain control.

Increasing your following distance can give you more time to change speeds or make a lane change in a safe manner. If you don't feel comfortable driving in extremely wet conditions, pull over until road conditions change to your liking.
